Our Brother

 It just so happens that our brother inherited the creative gene too. He recently took up drawing again after a long hiatus. Here is the first installment of a series he has planned of wild animals and music. This one is called Elefunk and the elephant is holding a boombox.

When he finished it, he slapped it in a store bought frame and used the mat it came with. I had to have an intervention. The mat was just not happening. It was too large and came right to the edges of his drawing. He brought it over here and I cut a double mat for it. Much better! A mat cutter is a great thing to invest it, or even better, have your sister buy one and do it for you. :) But seriously, when I was in school I had to mat a lot of my work and it was outrageously expensive. I have had my mat cutter for about 10 years and I have gotten so much use out of it. One large sheet of mat board costs $5 and can be cut into 4-6 mats! 

Pen And Ink Hands

I recently signed up to do the decorations for an upcoming women's retreat. Turns out, I have been able to dust off my art supplies and do some drawing! This is something I really love to do, but haven't done since I had kids. I feel pretty rusty yet. The original idea was that I was going to design a map-type design for use at the retreat. It ended up with me working with the graphic designer for a logo. She used the original hands drawing (without text) to create the logo. (I would post it, but I can't figure out how.) I am sure I will be sick of seeing the drawing very soon.

I know I haven't posted much around here lately. I have a few mostly non-sewing projects I have been working on and will post them in the next few days. Here is a sketch I did a week or two ago. I have been trying to do a little drawing lately and it is so fun! I worked from a picture I took of my son a few years ago in Maine, watching a sailboat go by.
