Let The Christmas Present Posting Begin!

i

Here is a shirt I made for the basset hound my brother and sister-in-law just adopted. Her name is Olivia, Olive for short. I made this shirt using freezer paper applique. I sketched out my idea and traced it onto the paper. I am very happy with how it turned out for two reasons. One, the first time I tried to do letters with freezer paper, it bombed. Second, I felt as though I was using some of my actual art training to create the design. Weee!! I even busted out my Prisma markers and sketch pad, and it felt good to be back to drawing if only for a little bit. While I will admit that I always let out an internal chuckle when I see people dressing their dogs, I really had fun with this one! (P.S. Notice the collar?!)

Freezer Paper Shirts

Here are a few shirts I made for my (pesky) brother-in-law. I really like the whole freezer paper stencil technique, and am finding out what works and what doesn't. While using text seems like a nice idea, I found that cutting each letter out is very tedious, and it is difficult to get a nice crisp edge. The shirt that has the city skyline on it (Austin, TX if you must know) was actually supposed to turn out differently. I did one of his favorite lines 'Good and good for you.' But the text didn't turn out as crisp as I wanted it to and it bothered me. I decided to do the Austin skyline over it and salvage the shirt, but the text was visible even after stenciling over it. I added a few more layers, but it is still faint. So now I am bothered by that, but what's done is done. The top shirt is something from the Office (I think?) meant to be Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica. I don't think I'll ever have another opportunity to stencil a beet on a shirt. :)

More Silhouettes!?

Are you getting tired of my silhouettes already?! These were done with the freezer paper method (which is AWESOME!!), scraps of fabric and little frames from IKEA. Again, I printed out pictures to size and just traced their images straight onto the freezer paper. Very easy! I've been told my baby looks like Uncle Fester due to his lack of a neck, but I think he's darn cute! :)

Freezer Paper!

I have been playing around with freezer paper stenciling. Basically, you cut out a stencil in freezer paper, iron it on and apply some paint. Here is one of my first projects...the kids' silhouettes. I see a lot of possibilities with this technique!
