Mom's Birthday - Dopp Kit and Jewelry Case

For Christmas I made my mom the Amy Butler Blossom Bag out of this fabric. I thought it would be fun to make some matching travel bags to make a set. I used the wonderful Dopp Kit tutorial from here which I have used a couple of other times and really love. I also drafted the pattern for the jewelry case myself and I like the concept so much I think I will end up making one for my own traveling collection!

Dopp Kit #2

I had some leftover scraps from my Blossom bag project and decided to use them for another Dopp Kit (see the first one and the tutorial from The Purl Bee here). This one is a little different though because the inside is trimmed with bias tape (still from the .70 cent pillowcases!) and has some pink top stitching. If you haven't noticed yet...I am a houndstooth fanatic :)

P.S. The bag looks lumpy but it's actually not. I just take bad pictures and had to stuff it to stand it up!

Dopp Kit

I've been wanting to get some oil cloth since I first saw some in Austin a few years ago. For my birthday, my husband bought me some (hooray!!!) and so I decided to make a new toiletries bag for traveling. I used a tutorial that you can find here and spent this morning sewing it up. This was my first oil cloth experiement and it was a gigantic pain. It isn't malleable and I had to significantly manhandle it and actually snapped a needle in the process. However, I love how it turned out so it was all worth it in the end.

P.S. Mom...look at the zipper!!!!
