Sleeves To Pants

This is a project I completed a while ago and have never posted mainly because the intended recipient is not interested in them at all for reasons I can't quite pinpoint. The legs of these capris are made from sleeves. The shirt I used had 3/4 length sleeves which turned out to be the perfect length. I added a yoga-type fold over band at the top that was cut from a pair of knit pants. Because I used the existing hem and just sewed the sleeves together, this was a very fast project!

Here is the latest pair of pants I 'upcycled' from an old pair of corduroy pants. These are a bit long, obviously, but the good news is they'll fit for a while.

Pants Into Pants

My husband finally gave up on my favorite pair of his dress pants. At 6'4", he has a hard time finding pants long enough. These ones were just a little short and drove him crazy. So, I cut them up! I used the Willow Wayfarers pattern yet again. Seriously, I can't say enough about this pattern. It fits my skinny kids perfectly! I think I have made about 20 pairs from it so far. That's $4 well spent. For these pants, once I split the leg seam apart, I laid them flat and lined the bottom of the pattern along the already hemmed edge, thus saving myself a step. Now the little gremlin has a pair of dress pants, even if all he wants to do is go outside and play:

Corduroy Pants

I made these pants last night for my littlest rugrat. He is a skinny little guy and doesn't fit into any of his pants. I've now made these enough times that I can whip out a pair in just over 30 minutes. That is what you call instant gratification. The fabric is corduroy I got on clearance for $2/yard!! I added the cuff so that they will fit him for a while.

Ruffled Pants

I finished another pair of pants for my daughter. Are you sick of seeing pants yet? These were made from a pair of my old jeans. One average sized pair of pants will make one pair of toddler pants, or two pairs of infant/12 month sized pants. The ruffles and pockets are from a scrap of fabric I had left from another project.

Pants!

I realize I have made about a zillion pairs of pants from the Willow Wayfarers pattern, but why mess with a good thing? The pattern is perfect for my tall, skinny kids. My preferred method is to cut apart a pair of adult pants at the inner leg seam, and refashion them into kid pants. I embellished this pair with a vintage doily that came from a lady in Australia. I appliqued the butterfly and pockets with some fabric scraps. The plan is for these pants to have room for her to grow into...but at the rate she is going she'll probably outgrow them in two months!

More Pants

Here are a few more pairs of pants from the big batch I made. This pair was made from a skirt that came from Rach. I used the existing hem (but of course!). This pair turned out to be my favorite.

This pair was made from a pair of my favorite pants. I couldn't bear to get rid of them, even though they were too big, so I was happy to put them to this use. The fabric is really nice and soft, so perfect for those chubby little baby legs!

Don't let the pictures fool you. The pants are not all discombobulated. (Do I get bonus points for using that word? ;) The pants are made from this old piece of suiting I have. I have used that fabric for several projects now and it just keeps lasting. The pockets and the tie applique are from a pinstriped jacket that Rach gave me. I can't wait to dress him up in this, with his little black wingtip shoes.

Whatever Works: Sewing in Bulk

I am back on my bulk sewing kick again. I cut out 6 pairs of pants for my baby boy. (Technically he is probably a toddler now but I am not ready to call him that.) Anyway, he's a skinny little bean and pants literally fall right off of him. Sewing in bulk seems to work out nicely for me and lets me work more quickly. Whatever gets the job done, right?

For these pants, I am using a modified version of the Willow Wayfarer pattern I use for my daughter. It is specifically designed for skinny kids. I shortened the length quite a bit and they fit perfectly. This pair is made out of a nice Gap skirt that Rachel handed down to me. I wore it a few times but it wasn't really my style. The denim was still in perfect shape though, so I kept it. The skirt was enough for two pairs of pants! (More pictures to follow after I have another night to sew) The pockets were from scraps I had in my stash. Can't beat the price of these pants! :)

Capris

Here is another pair of pants I made using this pattern. I shortened the leg to make capris. The pictures aren't too hot because she had no desire to stand still for even a second, but you get the point.

Jammie Pants

Here are a few pairs of pajama pants I made for my son. So far I have completed 3 out of 5 pairs. (The other completed pair is Curious George fabric) I made these because he refuses to wear shorts, that is, up until the time that I cut out the pants. Now he wants some shorts. But I am OK with that, because they are easy to make and I have gotten smart. I make his pants extra long since he has been growing an average of 1/2 inch a month. At that rate he will be 9 feet tall in the third grade!
