More Coasters

Here is another set of Kids' Artwork coasters, this time for Mom. These really couldn't be more simple: mod-podge the artwork to a tile, glue felt on the back and voila! Instant coasters. Makes me wish we actually used coasters. 

Childrens Artwork Coasters

 A while back on Pinterest, I saw the idea to make a child's artwork into coasters. I have also been wanting to try this technique for a while. We roughly followed those instructions, using clear glue instead of blue. I also dried the glue with a hair dryer which had the awesome side affect of blowing the glue into little scallops.  We used coarse sea salt which made bigger splotches than regular salt. To make the coasters, I got white tiles from Home Depot which happen to be ridiculously cheap. I cut squares from the finished paintings to be slightly smaller than the surface of the tile. I think that narrow edge makes a nice frame for the artwork. I used modge podge to adhere them to the tiles, and I think I am going to put felt on the bottoms to avoid scratches. (You could also use cork) I think these would also be pretty hanging on the wall in a grouping.

Quickie Coasters

I made a batch of coasters back in January which you can see here. They are very easy and quick to make and help clean up leftover fabric. For these, I used 1 layer of Soft and Natural batting with different cotton prints from the Robert Kaufman Metro Cafe series (I love, love, love these prints!) They can be infinitely customized but I chose to go simple with only a little top stitching. I've been sewing a lot of Christmas projects lately which I can't post until after after the big day so it was nice to selfishly make a little project just for me :)

Scrap Inspiration: Coasters

I have a lot of scraps hanging around and I came across a crafty lady on the Burda Style website that made coasters for her house. So with her success in mind, I machine quilted a set of 10 coasters. I would like to add that I am big on the upcycling so one of the coasters is made from a bag that my dad brought me back from Germany and another coaster is from a bag I bought from Bath and Body works.
